Many years ago I did my NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner. I think it was just before the Master Practitioner that I started to question the “Mastery” element. What on earth is this thing called Mastery? Well one (maths website, actually) describes it as: “Mastering… means pupils acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject.”
But surely – I had achieved this level of mastery from the practitioner programme? I mean, I felt like I had a deep enough knowledge of the subject, and as for long-term, I’d been studying NLP since the early ’90’s (NLP was only birthed in the ’70’s). I’d known about (and practiced) hypnotherapy since I was about 13, when I’d found a trio of books about self-hypnosis in a charity shop, and would studiously self-hypnotise myself to become more confident and to be able to talk to boys.
Adaptable – yes, I thought I was quite adaptable. And my knowledge felt quite secure as I knew the citations and references were well-researched and thorough. So – four out of four!? Perhaps.
However, something propelled me into the Master Practitioner… and it was only in doing it that I realised just how important it was to become to me. Master Practitioner knowledge gave me far more insight than I would have dream’t of. It was both tough going and hard work, at the same time smooth. A smooth transition into the depth (remember the learning ladder? ) that I did not realise that I did not know…
My personal Master Practitioner qualification was led by a wonderful trainer, Richard. I have so much respect for him. He herded us like feral cats as we searched for more detail, we yearned to grasp the nebulous, and take hold of knowledge, a profoundly un-holdable entity. To make firm and solid what was not. It was a training that I loved, for so many reasons. And that I got so much from. And that I’m not even sure we can recreate. So we aren’t.
It’s not just because of our personal lack of cat-herding skills…
Instead of a one-person Master Practitioner training, we have gone for a FIVE person, super-deep mastery experience. Where each weekend will be a deep dive into the subject. It’s not just because of our personal abilities of cat-herding. This is more about delivering so much great insight that we want the experts to be here, delivering directly.
So take a look at our NEW Master Practitioner programme, and see what you think. Is this a course that you believe will contribute to your life in the way it’s intended? Or do you see it as a collection of qualifications you can immediately start to use? Or perhaps it’s just a “great to have” that is a continuation of your NLP learning journey? Be great to hear what you think.
