Mapping Across

By Julia Bickley

It is several years since I had the amazing experience of doing an NLP Master Practitioner Training Course. I didn’t have any idea at that point just how impactful it would be, for me, and for those that I support through my coaching, training and facilitation.

I now have the opportunity to provide this rewarding training to others.  Having delivered NLP Practitioner and Diploma programmes I get to hear just how valuable the learning is for the participants, during the programme but most importantly, after.

I have been coaching an individual and reflected on how much of the work we have done related to behavioural and thinking strategies.  Establishing and learning from the triggers and patterns of behaviour that were unwanted, detrimental to their progress and aspirations.  It was fascinating for them to delve into these in fine detail, learn how their behavioural and thinking pattern (strategy) played out.  Unpicking this, almost like a computer programme, allowed them to really identify areas for change.

This alone was great insight and allowed for progress, and yet what really made the key difference was identifying successful strategies, habits of thinking and behaviours that supported positive results, consistently.  Understanding the detail of these strategies, noting the obvious and subtle differences allowed us to map across elements of the successful strategy to the unwanted one.

I remembered clearly learning the tools and techniques for these life changing methods during my NLP learning journey.  This is just one tool and technique in a tool kit of many.  NLP a wondrous set of skills to use in a multitude of ways.  If you are all about positive change for yourself and others, get learning and developing those NLP skills and support your communication with self and others, your ability to manage your emotions and actions more effectively, support change at multiple levels and make a lasting difference!
